A writer’s mind can hold thousands of worlds, and even more stories. Incandescent Phoenix Books (IPB) is a small press devoted to bringing those marvelous worlds to life.

 

Started in 2013 by Matt Larkin, IPB has known phenomenal growth over the last year, adding even more authors to its roster and bringing its library to a total of twenty science-fiction and fantasy books.

 

 

 

As a small press, IPB can devote its entire attention to the authors in its line, working in close relationship with them to create a final product everyone is proud of. We have a vested interest in every title we publish, because the reputation of both our authors and the publisher is on the line.

DogsterApp is a social platform that creates a marketplace for dog parents and dog walking companies to interact & transact. Dog parents can upload pictures and updates about their furry children (think Instagram), while also requesting walks from local companies at any time (think Uber).

Our goal is to have every type of dog related service represented within our mobile application to improve the lives of dogs and their families.

My advice: Talk to your customers. Getting detailed feedback from our users constantly helps us to ensure that we are building a product that they love.

My name is Bethany Durden. I began my business North Georgia Dental Temps, to meet the dental staffing needs of offices in the North Georgia region of the State.

My goal is to bring a paradigm shift to the outdated model of the dental staffing agency. Having been in the dental field as a dental hygienist for 12 years, I had very little knowledge of how to start a business. 

I started to educate myself through blogs and podcasts on how to start and run a business.

     
As a microbusiness entrepreneur, you must wear many  hats.  You are the IT person, the marketer, design team, secretary and accountant.  The job that I have found most challenging to this point is building my website, and the technological aspects of SEO.

     
I have chosen to measure my success by setting goals for myself within a timeframe and achieving them. If you just look at the big picture, you can easily get discouraged in the first few years of a new business venture.  However, if you judge your company’s success by the goals you have accomplished it gives a different perspective on success.

     
My most helpful tools thus far have been podcasts. Since I still work full time, I am able to use my commute to become educated.  My favorite podcast is Entreleadership. It gives both business advice and encouragement with a focus on small business.  My most helpful tools are PicMonkey, Google Calendar and a phone app Mass Text.

My name is Johnis Dupuis and I am the founder and CEO of Cicada Tech Solutions. It is amazing to see how far the company has come considering where we have been. In the beginning we started out as a classroom of guys with a group of laptops, a variety of skills, and no startup capital.

 

But perseverance has allowed us to become the company that we see today. Now, a year later, Cicada Tech is currently a branding and design company with the intent on assisting our clientele base, primarily small business owners and those looking to rebrand themselves, with the services necessary for all their branding needs.

 

We assist in the rebranding of our clientele with services such as photography, graphic design, and social media marketing, but our biggest services has been Web design and web maintenance.

 

As time progresses, we plan on moving more into the coding sector of our enterprise by taking on our next frontier- software programming.

 

If I can give any advice to other small business owners, it would be two things. First, have a structured plan. Create goals for yourself and focus on nothing else but the goal in front of you.

 

My second piece advice is to have a strong, devoted, and encouraging team of people behind you. There are two ways to acquire power- through money and through people- and as a company that started with no money, having a militant and hard working team was very instrumental.

 

With all the planning that I had done, I could not built this company without the help of my team, especially my partners, Reginald Essien, Ashley Berry, and Chris Xia who is my Co-founder, my COO, and my CFO respectively.
