My name is Bethany Durden. I began my business North Georgia Dental Temps, to meet the dental staffing needs of offices in the North Georgia region of the State.

My goal is to bring a paradigm shift to the outdated model of the dental staffing agency. Having been in the dental field as a dental hygienist for 12 years, I had very little knowledge of how to start a business. 

I started to educate myself through blogs and podcasts on how to start and run a business.

     
As a microbusiness entrepreneur, you must wear many  hats.  You are the IT person, the marketer, design team, secretary and accountant.  The job that I have found most challenging to this point is building my website, and the technological aspects of SEO.

     
I have chosen to measure my success by setting goals for myself within a timeframe and achieving them. If you just look at the big picture, you can easily get discouraged in the first few years of a new business venture.  However, if you judge your company’s success by the goals you have accomplished it gives a different perspective on success.

     
My most helpful tools thus far have been podcasts. Since I still work full time, I am able to use my commute to become educated.  My favorite podcast is Entreleadership. It gives both business advice and encouragement with a focus on small business.  My most helpful tools are PicMonkey, Google Calendar and a phone app Mass Text.

My name is Johnis Dupuis and I am the founder and CEO of Cicada Tech Solutions. It is amazing to see how far the company has come considering where we have been. In the beginning we started out as a classroom of guys with a group of laptops, a variety of skills, and no startup capital.

 

But perseverance has allowed us to become the company that we see today. Now, a year later, Cicada Tech is currently a branding and design company with the intent on assisting our clientele base, primarily small business owners and those looking to rebrand themselves, with the services necessary for all their branding needs.

 

We assist in the rebranding of our clientele with services such as photography, graphic design, and social media marketing, but our biggest services has been Web design and web maintenance.

 

As time progresses, we plan on moving more into the coding sector of our enterprise by taking on our next frontier- software programming.

 

If I can give any advice to other small business owners, it would be two things. First, have a structured plan. Create goals for yourself and focus on nothing else but the goal in front of you.

 

My second piece advice is to have a strong, devoted, and encouraging team of people behind you. There are two ways to acquire power- through money and through people- and as a company that started with no money, having a militant and hard working team was very instrumental.

 

With all the planning that I had done, I could not built this company without the help of my team, especially my partners, Reginald Essien, Ashley Berry, and Chris Xia who is my Co-founder, my COO, and my CFO respectively.

My partner and I have been looking to start a business together for quite some time.

 

I have always been the idea guy and he is the one with the great mind for business. Together we make one great team.

 

I took a second job with Uber as a driver. One night I was driving along waiting for the next rider and it hit me. Why not have an "Uber for your stuff"?

 

My idea was to have a setup similar to Uber with an app based service that connected customers, both personal and businesses with contracted delivery experts.

Our app matches up the driver closest to the request that has a vehicle on file suitable for the job and dispatches them immediately.

 

On top of the basic service we also have a "bidding board" for customers that really want to get the best deal.

Drivers benefit from having the flexibility to be their own bosses and use what every vehicle (as long as it meets state and federal regulations) to deliver anything legal. So in example.

 

A customer is antique shopping and comes across a large piece of furniture that will not fit in her vehicle. Normally the customer would have 2 options. Arrange for delivery that may be very time consuming and expensive or decide it's not worth the trouble. With our app the customer can litterally open the app.

 

Get a quote and accept the fee, or place the job on the bidding board. Once the customer decides the price is right the charges are accepted and a driver is dispatched right away or at the customers specified time.

Item is delivered and the customers in app payment is charged. No matter what it is you need delivered, food, groceries, furniture, industrial machines or equipment, or even documents or dry cleaning, we deliver it. 

 

My advise to any one starting a business is to stick with it and don't give up.
 

Adapt, preserve, thing and dig deep. That is what you must do. Everything else is secondary.
